Team Grenada take on Hyde residents in five-a-side warm up ahead of Homeless World Cup

Posted on 21 July 2016

The Jason Roberts Foundation (JRF) is taking another team from Grenada to compete at the Homeless World Cup, this year in Glasgow.

En-route to the event, the Grenadians were invited to London meet some of the young people the JRF works with in the capital.

As a part of the visit the team played a five-a-side match against local Hyde residents at the Pavilion in Stonebridge. The local Londoners struggled to keep up with the speed of the visiting team, but thoroughly enjoyed playing against international competition.

Stevie, 17-year-old Hyde resident, said: “The Grenadians were a lot fitter than us and very energetic. It was great fun and I enjoyed meeting the team.”

Kwame Kumaning, Jason Roberts Foundation’s Project Manager, said: “I’m very impressed with the Grenadians, who came straight from the airport to play football this morning, and this evening they showed just as much energy on the pitch.

“I would like to say thank you to The Hyde Group for providing us with this opportunity to play football at the Pavilion and for encouraging Team Grenada to go to the Homeless World Cup.”
