The Hyde Group, in partnership with Westerhill Homes, part of Chartway Group, has purchased the land next to the Old Thanet Way in Whitstable from Devine Homes plc. We have come together with the construction company with the intention of building around 400 new homes and making improvements to the Duncan Downs nature reserve.
The site will be one of the first in Canterbury to benefit from new affordable housing supported by grant funding from Homes England, thanks to its strategic partnership with us. It means that more socially rented homes will be built on the site, as well as those for outright sale, shared ownership and affordable rent, creating a new, genuinely mixed community.
Tom Shaw, Managing Director, Development, at Hyde said: “I am thrilled that we have completed the purchase of this land and can start building more affordable homes that people in Kent really need. The scheme we are proposing means we can build a range of homes that meet different housing needs, while enabling people to stay close to their families or afford to stay in the area they grew up in. The new development will include high quality new homes and amenities which will sit beautifully and sensitively in the surroundings.”
Westerhill Homes CEO Ian Savage said: “We are pleased to be working in partnership again with Hyde to deliver this important and exciting development, that will bring new homes of quality to this much-loved and sought after area of Kent.”
Chris Posgate, Managing Director of Devine Homes plc, said: “Devine Homes is delighted to have successfully shaped the future of this site and look forward to seeing the Hyde Group deliver a scheme to provide much-needed new homes, in a development, of which the residents of Whitstable can be proud.”
We have already successfully delivered very popular new homes with Chartway at other developments in Kent, including Heron Fields in Sittingbourne and Evabourne at Peters Village.
