Julie McCullie, PMO Manager

Hyde has helped me build up my confidence. Today I‘m a thousand times more confident than when I joined seven years ago. I’ve learned that it’s okay to speak up when you have an idea

Julie McCullie, PMO Manager

Julie McCullie

Julie McCullie’s first role at Hyde was PA to the Procurement Director. It was then that her interest in project management sparked and her career path altered.

“Even though I wasn’t directly involved in projects, I started paying attention and noticing how even making small changes could have a huge impact further down the line,” said Julie.

Two years later Julie became Executive Assistant to Tracy Allison, then Group Director of Corporate Services. In this role, Julie was able to soak up everything about project management like a sponge.

“I was attentive to everything going on" explained Julie, "I made it my business to learn how everything fitted together - from the different teams across the business to the outside contractors."

Knowing that Julie had a passion for project management, Tracy encouraged Julie to apply for a maternity cover role in the Project Management Office (PMO). From that point on there was no stopping Julie. From PMO Officer she leapt to PMO Co-ordinator then to PMO Support Manager and in October 2016 was appointed to her current position of PMO Manager. Julie also completed her PRINCE qualification which focuses on projects in a controlled environment; this is something she is most proud of.

Julie’s experience at Hyde has taught her that if you aspire to something, there is always a way of achieving it: whether through training, work shadowing or spending time talking to people. You can build up your knowledge, even for a few hours a week, so that if a role comes up you will be prepared for it.

“Hyde has helped me build up my confidence, Today I‘m a thousand times more confident than when I joined seven years ago. I’ve learned that it’s okay to speak up when you have an idea, and I’ve found that this is actually encouraged at Hyde.”

Because projects touch so many teams within the business, Julie knows many of her colleagues really well and as made some firm friends.

“The people at Hyde are wonderful; there are always so many colleagues across the business who want good, positive outcomes and are happy to get involved and help you – this is something I never experienced when I worked in the private sector."
