We work to build strong communities, where people want to live.
Every community is different, so we work with residents and local people to make sure that the activities we deliver meet local needs. Examples of the type of activities and services we have introduced into communities include improving play areas, setting up and supporting groups and activities, and running local community centres.
It is also important to us to:
- Improve the health and wellbeing of older residents
- Help local people to “green” their area through community-based sustainable projects
- Increasing resident’s confidence to use computers and the internet
- Working with residents and local groups to develop strong, sustainable communities that are engaged with and influencing local issues and services

Young People
Our work with young people is all about helping our residents to increase their aspirations, skills, confidence and achievements. We do this through delivering a range of local projects for young people, working with schools, youth groups and voluntary sector partners. Hyde Young Pride Bursary
- Through our Hyde Young Pride bursary we encourage our young residents to take part in a range of activities from sports and drama to extra tuition. We have found this increases skills, confidence and personal development. The scheme, designed for ages 16 and under, offers up to £200 to help pay for cultural, educational or sporting activities.
Hyde Young Pride Case Study
Jessica used her Hyde Young Pride bursary to cover the cost of gymnastics classes. Jessica says “I really enjoy gymnastics as a hobby. It’s really fun and I’ve made a lot of friends, I’m in the top group which is mostly girls, but we do have a few boys.” Jessica went on to say “we do gym shows and I help with the younger children, as I’ve been doing gymnastics for a long time.”

Hyde Youth Bank
The Hyde Youth Bank is an innovative concept which allows young people to direct where money should be spent in their communities. It is a pot of money which has been made available specifically for young people by the Hyde CharitableTrust and the Matrix Charitable Foundation. A panel of young people from across London and the South East meet three times a year to assess funding applications from other young people , for projects in their communities. There is a maximum of £500 available per project.

We also promote healthy home environments and family life for our younger residents through joint working with family and parenting projects. In many areas we are working with Children’s Centres, Schools, and specialist family intervention projects bringing additional help to address challenges they face.
Our advice and guidance service New Directions, which helps residents into training, volunteering or work, also works with residents aged 16 upwards.
