Many of the rural parishes and communities of South East England benefit from high property values, however this has resulted in low income households being disadvantaged and often forced out of their communities due to housing need. Those in greatest housing need tend to be low income, young, emerging households and young overcrowded families. The plight of people in rural areas being unable to afford to live there has been addressed through HARAH – the Hampshire Alliance for Rural Affordable Housing.
Hyde was selected in 2005 by HARAH to deliver affordable housing in rural communities across Hampshire and has so far delivered 112 units over 15 sites, with a further 22 units on 3 sites under construction.
Hyde is also the lead developer for the Chichester Rural Partnership and is on course to deliver an ongoing programme of 25 new homes per year which are made available to people local to the parish in which the developments are based.
Landscape and ecology design is crucial to our rural developments with schemes being kept small and where hedges to enhance biodiversity and the creation of wildlife habitats have equal status.
The HARAH scheme will build 3 two bedroomed and 2 three bedroomed houses to meet local housing needs for residents from the parishes of Buckholt, East Dean, East Tytherley, Frenchmoor, Mottisfont and West Tytherley.
All homes will use solar energy and will have stunning views of the surrounding farmland. The homes are due for completion by the end of the summer of 2010.
This barn conversion formed part of a larger private development out of which came two bedroomed single story terraced houses. It was completed in 2009.
This HARAH scheme, due to complete in May 2010, will transform former MOD land into new homes to meet the local needs of people in the parishes of Longparish, Wherewell or Chilbolton.
When finished it will provide much needed homes consisting of four two bedroomed houses and two three bedroom houses. Solar panels will provide all the hot water.
Located in a well established residential location with the Adur District between Brighton and Hove and Shoreham by Sea, this development will be a mix of shared ownership and affordable rented flats and houses.
Six two storey three-bedroomed houses and 34 two bedroomed flats with car parking, balconies, patios, gardens and a large communal space will be built. Building work is expected to complete in April 2010 weather permitting.
This development completed during 2009 and was a joint venture between HydeMartlet and local developers, Seaward Properties. They have built 22 affordable flats in a town centre location as part of a multi-million pound re-development.
This former public house was opened in 1957. The name came from the Guinea Pig Club which was formed in 1941 by a group of aircrew who had been badly burned and were “guinea pigs” for the new burn and plastic surgery treatment then still in its infancy.
This new development will be named “Guinea Pig Place” in memory of the former WWII service men.
Hyde will be providing 19 apartments for general need rent consisting of:
16 x 1 bedroom apartments
3 x 2 bedroom apartments
1 commercial unit
Nominations to these apartments will be via Mid Sussex District Council.
Rydon Construction Ltd is well underway on site and it is anticipated that these new homes will be ready for occupation on September 2010.
Crawley’s former leisure centre is slowly being transformed into much needed social housing. We are working with Moat and Fairview Homes to provide 105 one and two bedroomed flats which will have easy access to the town centre, the Hawth Theatre and nearby parks and transport links.
The accommodation will consist of 61 flats for general rental, 33 shared ownership (part-buy/part-rent) flats and 11 intermediate rental flats. Phased completions have already started and some general rental and shared ownership flats are ready for residents.
Working with Taylor Wimpey and the Homes and Communities Agency, HydeMartlet has finished 15 new affordable homes in this popular seaside town. The new homes will be available to rent through the local authority choice based letting scheme or to buy as shared ownership. The development completed in June 2009.
This derelict church in the centre of Brighton is in the process of being transformed into 49 homes of one, two and three bedroomed flats. Available through the local authority’s choice based letting scheme or to buy as shared ownership, they will help first time buyers to gain a foothold on the housing ladder. The scheme is scheduled for completion in July 2010.
This is an innovative scheme being run between Brighton and Hove council and the Brighton Open Market Traders’ Association to create 87 new homes together with a day market offering a diverse retail range of services.
Promoting fresh local produce whilst at the same time serving as a hub for arts and crafts, this architectural stunning development is expected to act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the London Road area. The development is due for completion in 2011.
Bette Davis once glided down the stairs of this Grade II listed Art Deco building, it's also where Jimmy Tarbuck learnt his trade as a comedian while he worked for Butlins.
