About Us
Residents walking the dog

The Hyde Group is a responsible social business with strong local links. We are committed to providing homes people can afford in areas they want to live in.

We are based throughout London, the South East and the East Midlands. We have properties in city centres and rural locations – from the heart of the capital to the heart of England.

Our help does not stop at helping someone find a home. We also provide training and employment support and offer financial help to make your money go a bit further and to get your life back on track.

We not only own or manage over 43,000 homes to over 120,000 customers, we also work very closely with local authorities and the Homes and Communities Agency to provide the kind of home you are looking for and a rent you can comfortably afford. We can also offer advice if you cannot access social housing or get on the property ladder, this includes low cost home ownership and key-worker and intermediate rented accommodation.

Our aim is to help you live the independent life you have been looking for, either through sheltered or in supported housing. We provide short-term support to enable people to take control of their lives as well as an extensive care and support package for the most vulnerable.

We are first and foremost a social business. There are no shareholders so any profit we make is ploughed back into the business for your benefit. In 2008-09 we spent £243m transforming communities and achieved an average of £243 debt reduction for customers receiving debt advice. With an average weekly rent of £85.50 (at 2008/09 prices) our rents are certainly affordable.

We are also doing our bit towards the environment. Some of our housing developments are breaking records and setting new standards in energy saving and CO2 reduction, which is why we gave away 160,000 energy saving light bulbs to residents, thereby reducing their fuel bills and their carbon footprint all at the same time.

We at The Hyde Group are confident we can provide you with the home you are looking for in a location you like and at a rent you can comfortably afford.

Things are changing for the better

Hyde residents at fun day

In 2007, the Hyde Group celebrated 40 years of providing housing and community services to our residents. As well as highlighting our successes, this milestone gave us an opportunity to think about how to improve what we do and how to give you a better service.

In 2009, many of you responded to our resident survey “State of the Nation”. Thank you for taking the time to let us know what you think; your opinions are very important to us. You told us, amongst other things that:

  • Just 57% of you were satisfied with the outcome of their service request.
  • 53 % of you had to contact Hyde several times to resolve the same service request.
  • Only 46% of you classed your customer experience as excellent
  • Just 60% of you will recommend Hyde as a landlord to people they know.

Listening to these issues raised by you, we recognise that we need to change the way we do things. We are working on a major transformational project to help us drive through changes which will result in benefits that we are confident will help us to continue doing what we do best – providing homes and opportunities that help communities.

What’s more, these planned changes will help us to make a lasting difference to the lives of our residents and the people who live and work in the communities where Hyde has a presence.

A large part of this is listening to what you tell us. With the help of the Hydewide Residents' Eye, the Hydewide Residents' Voice and our ongoing resident surveys, we’re taking your thoughts on board and making changes that will have a lasting impression.

As we plan more changes, we’ll keep you informed, every step of the way.
